Singapore Casinos

There are currently two integrated resorts with casinos in Singapore. These are the Marina Bay Sands in central Singapore and Resorts World at Sentosa Island.

In December 2004, the Singapore government invited industry players to submit concepts for the construction of these two integrated resorts. A total of 19 concepts were submitted.

Four companies / groups made their formal bids for the Marina Bay resort, which included:

Many considered Harrah's and MGM as the frontrunners to win the project. However, to the surprise of many, Las Vegas Sands was announced as the winner on 26 May 2006.

The Marina Bay Sands is billed as the centerpiece of the Marina Bay landscape. Las Vegas Sands committed the highest development investment of S$3.85 billion. With the land price and associated capital cost, its total investment exceeded S$5 billion.

Marina Bay Sands is one of the most expensive casinos in the world. Moshe Safdie's design consists of three large shells containing conference halls and other business venues, three large hotel towers linked on their top floors by a sweeping sky garden, and a centerpiece museum which juts out onto the bay.

Meanwhile, three companies / groups submitted their proposals for the Sentosa resort, which included:

A fourth contender, Harrah's Entertainment and Keppel Land consortium pulled out from the bidding four days before the deadline.

The group of Genting International and Star Cruises was announced as the winning bidder on December 8, 2006. They dubbed their project as Resorts World at Sentosa.
